Sound Technician
Salary: Hourly, $20 – $23 per hour (dependent on experience), non-exempt, part-time
Hours: 10 hours/week, Sundays: 8:00am – 1:00pm (covers 9:00 AM & 11:00 AM services), plus remaining hours for rehearsals and equipment set-up
Reports to: Senior Pastor
About Us: Faith United Methodist Church is dedicated to fostering an engaging and vibrant worship experience. We are seeking a reliable, tech-savvy individual to join our team as a part-time Sound Technician. In this role, you will ensure clear, distraction-free audio that supports our pastoral leadership, worship musicians, and congregation.
Core Responsibilities
- Pre-Service Setup: Arrive at 8:00 AM to prepare the stage, position microphones, and manage direct inputs for the band, vocalists, and pastors.
- Sound Checks: Execute thorough line checks and sound checks before the 9:00 AM service begins. Balance volume levels and configure appropriate EQ/compression settings.
- Live Mixing: Actively monitor and mix audio levels in real time during the 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM worship services to maintain a clean, engaging sound profile.
- Teardown & Maintenance: Properly store equipment post-service. Track, report, and troubleshoot any technical issues or faulty hardware.
- Collaboration: Partner closely with pastors, worship leaders, and media to follow service cues, schedule changes, and technical requests.
Qualifications & Skills
- Console Expertise: Required proficiency operating a Yamaha digital sound board.
- Live Mixing Experience: Proven experience operating digital consoles and mixing audio in a live setting (church, concert, or event production experience preferred).
- Technical Aptitude: Strong understanding of digital signal flow, microphone placement, monitors, and basic audio troubleshooting.
- Collaborative Spirit: A teachable attitude with the ability to take direction, adapt quickly to live service changes, and work well with both professional staff and volunteers.
- Punctuality & Reliability: Strict adherence to the Sunday morning schedule (8:00am – 1:00pm).
